Care Notes

Common Feeding Mistakes
The classic corella mistake is copying the wild diet. Wild corellas eat mostly grain and grass seed, so owners fill a bowl with seed and call it natural. Cockatoo species are very prone to obesity on seed-heavy diets, and the fatty lumps that follow can interfere with the bird's movement. Build the diet on formulated pellets and fresh vegetables, keep seed to a small measured serve, and make the bird work for it rather than leaving a full bowl out all day.
Habitat Requirements
Corellas are large, powerful chewers, so give them the biggest cage or aviary you can, in powder-coated or stainless steel rather than a painted or galvanised finish. Add natural perches of different thickness, plenty of safe chew material, and foraging enrichment that gives them something to dig at. Keep to a natural day length and darken the cage at night, because long light hours push moulting and hormonal behaviour.
Handling & Socialisation
Corellas are among the loudest and most demanding parrots kept in Australia, and they bond hard. Daily interaction, training and out-of-cage time are essential rather than optional, because a bored corella screams, chews and can start plucking. Keep sessions short, positive and consistent, set kind boundaries early to head off nipping, and give the bird jobs to do so its attention is not entirely on you.

THE CORELLAS MESS PROBLEM

Corellas feed on the ground in the wild and scatter hard when they eat. Fixing the feeder to the cage keeps the food where the bird is, instead of across the cage floor and the room around it.

WHY SEED CUBE WORKS FOR CORELLAS

Corellas are strong, deliberate feeders that gain weight easily on seed. The Large Seed Cube handles the force and the daily use, contains the scatter, and its enclosed shape makes the bird work a little for each mouthful instead of emptying an open bowl.

Clear acrylic allows easy food visibility

Comfortable access for small Corella bodies

Stable design prevents movement

Why the Large Seed Cube works long term

The Large Seed Cube supports Corella feeding habits while keeping cages cleaner day after day.

CORELLA FEEDING AND SEED CUBE FAQs

Common questions about feeding Corellas and keeping the cage clean with Seed Cube.

Yes. Corellas are large cockatoos, so they suit the Large Seed Cube. It mounts firmly to the cage bars and holds steady while a corella climbs, leans and feeds.
The Large. Little corellas weigh roughly 370 to 630 g and long-billed corellas average around 567 g, so every corella sits well above the 250 g line where we move up to the Large.
The Seed Cube is made from 4 mm UV-stable acrylic with a knurled 304 grade stainless steel perch and stainless bolts. Corellas have strong beaks and test everything, so supervise a new bird for the first few days and keep proper chew toys in the cage so the feeder is not the most interesting thing in there.
It contains most of the scatter. The enclosed chamber keeps husks and thrown seed inside rather than across the cage floor. No feeder removes cleaning entirely, and a corella will still shed powder down.
It hangs on the cage or aviary mesh using the supplied stainless steel hooks. Two sets are included, a standard universal pair and the Talon-Hook safety pair. Mount it at chest height on a solid section of mesh so the bird can perch square to it.
Empty it, wash the acrylic with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, then dry it before refilling. Avoid abrasive pads, which scratch acrylic. Wash daily if you also serve fresh vegetables nearby.
Leave the old bowl in place and put the Seed Cube beside it, part filled with a favourite food, for a week or two. Corellas are curious but suspicious of new objects. Once you see the bird feeding from the Cube, start reducing the old bowl.
Pellets yes, and it is a better way to serve them because the bird has to reach in for each one. Serve wet vegetables in a separate shallow dish and take them out after a couple of hours, since damp food should not sit in a feeder.
We would not recommend it. The Seed Cube is a cage and aviary feeder for pet birds. Feeding wild corella flocks is discouraged in many parts of Australia, and councils dealing with large flocks work specifically to limit the food and water available to them.

Russell and Peita, founders of Seed Cube, an Aussie family bird feeder brand

Meet the founders

An Aussie family brand, built for cleaner bird feeding.

Hi, we are Russell and Peita.

Seed Cube started at home with one very determined Alexandrine. After years of cracked plastic, slipped mounts, and constant clean ups, we realised most feeders were not built to handle real birds or daily use.

We set out to build something we would actually trust.
That same focus on strength, stability, and cleaner feeding now guides how we design feeders for daily cage use.

There are now over 10,000 Seed Cubes in use worldwide. We do not build feeders to be cheap. We build them so feeding feels easier and spaces feel calmer.
