Care Notes

Common Feeding Mistakes
The biggest lovebird mistake is feeding seed alone. A seed-only diet is high in fat and low in calcium, vitamin A and other nutrients, and in lovebirds it drives three linked problems: fatty liver disease, vitamin A deficiency, and in hens chronic egg laying that can crash calcium stores and lead to egg binding. Base the diet on a formulated pellet, add daily greens and vegetables, limit seed to treats, and always offer a cuttlebone for calcium. Never feed avocado, onion, chocolate or anything with caffeine, as these are toxic to birds.
Habitat Requirements
Lovebirds are active, athletic little parrots that need a roomy cage with horizontal bars to climb, set well away from draughts, kitchen fumes and harsh afternoon sun. Give several perches of varying thickness placed away from the feeder so droppings do not foul the food, plus rotating foraging toys and chew items to keep a busy mind occupied. A shallow dish or regular light misting lets them bathe. Provide clear daylight and quiet, dark nights of 10 to 12 hours, which also helps curb hormonal over-breeding.
Handling & Socialisation
Lovebirds are bold and affectionate but can be feisty and territorial, especially in the breeding season. A single lovebird handled daily usually bonds strongly to its owner, while a bonded pair will be loyal to each other and less interested in people. Move calmly, offer treats from the hand, and keep handling sessions short and positive. Watch for hormonal aggression and nesting behaviour, and avoid encouraging it with dark hidey spots and constant petting down the back.

THE LOVEBIRDS MESS PROBLEM

Lovebirds are busy, enthusiastic eaters that hull every seed and flick the husks aside, so an open dish throws mess across the cage and floor fast. A cage-mounted feeder keeps the seed and husks contained in one place, so cleanup is quicker and the cage stays tidier.

MOUNTING

STAYS STABLE DURING FEEDING

Lovebirds are active climbers that swing on anything loose, so a feeder that tips makes mess fast. The Seed Cube clips firmly to the cage bars and stays put while your bird feeds.

WHY SEED CUBE WORKS FOR LOVEBIRDS

Lovebirds love seed, but husk mess and all-seed weight gain are the two big downsides. The Seed Cube contains the husks, and its steady, single feeding point makes it easy to measure the food and keep portions in check alongside daily greens and a good pellet.

Enclosed feeding area traps husks

Clear acrylic allows easy food visibility

Comfortable access for small lovebird bodies

Stable design prevents movement

Why the Small Seed Cube works long term

LOVEBIRD FEEDING AND SEED CUBE FAQs

Common questions about feeding lovebirds and keeping the cage clean with Seed Cube.

Yes. Lovebirds are small parrots at about 45 to 70 grams, so the Small Seed Cube suits them. It gives the right perch height and feeding access for a lovebird cage without wasting space.
No. Lovebirds have a strong little hookbill, but the Seed Cube is made from tough, chew-resistant acrylic that stands up to daily use. They can nibble the edges but cannot break the feeder.
Yes. Lovebirds hull seed and flick the husks, and they are enthusiastic, messy eaters. The Seed Cube contains the seed and husks in one place instead of scattering them across the cage floor.
It clips firmly to the cage bars and stays put while your lovebird climbs and feeds. Lovebirds are active, so a fixed feeder that does not swing or tip keeps mess down.
The Small Seed Cube. Lovebirds are small parrots, so the Small size gives the right fit and feeding access. The Large is built for bigger parrots.
Yes. The Seed Cube lifts off the cage for a quick refill and wipe. Because the husks stay contained, there is far less daily sweeping around the cage.
It can. Because the Seed Cube holds one measured feeding point, it is easier to control portions and mix in pellets as you slowly transition your bird off an all-seed diet. Make diet changes gradually and check with an avian vet.
A quality small-parrot pellet, a balanced seed mix, or a blend of both during a diet transition. Offer fresh greens, vegetables and fruit in a separate dish, since these spoil and should not sit in the feeder.

Meet the founders

An Aussie family brand, built for cleaner bird feeding.

Hi, we are Russell and Peita.

Seed Cube started at home with one very determined Alexandrine. After years of cracked plastic, slipped mounts, and constant clean ups, we realised most feeders were not built to handle real birds or daily use.

We set out to build something we would actually trust.
That same focus on strength, stability, and cleaner feeding now guides how we design feeders for daily cage use.

There are now over 10,000 Seed Cubes in use worldwide. We do not build feeders to be cheap. We build them so feeding feels easier and spaces feel calmer.
