Care Notes

Common Feeding Mistakes
The most common mistake is feeding only seed. Seed-only diets are high in fat and lead to obesity and fatty liver disease, the biggest killers of pet budgies. Build the diet on quality pellets and fresh vegetables, with seed as a smaller part. Skip avocado, chocolate, caffeine and salty foods.
Habitat Requirements
Budgies fly horizontally, so choose a cage that is wider than it is tall, the longer the better. Keep bar spacing under about 1.2 cm so a head cannot get stuck, add a few perch widths and some foraging toys, and keep food and water away from under perches.
Handling & Socialisation
Budgies are flock birds and need company, either a mate or plenty of daily interaction from you. Tame them with short, gentle, regular sessions. A lone budgie left alone all day will often pluck or scream, so be its flock or give it a friend.
