Why use Finch & Budgie Crumbles instead of seed?
Crumbles are complete nutrition with no seed hull waste, keeping aviaries and cages cleaner. High protein (21%) and balanced amino acids support better feathering, body condition and chick rearing. One feed eliminates the need for multiple seed mixes.
Do I need to add insects or Insectapro?
Non-breeding finches can thrive on crumbles alone, but adding 5% insects provides enrichment. During breeding, omnivorous finches require Insectapro supplementation (20% of diet) for egg production and chick rearing. Budgerigars and canaries don't need insect supplementation.
How do I transition my bird to crumbles from seed?
Mix moistened crumbles with seed 50:50, allowing birds to eat at their own pace. Gradually reduce seed ratio over several days until birds accept crumbles fully. Transition can also be sudden by removing all seed and providing only crumbles; birds adjust within a week but may fluff feathers initially.
Why does dropping colour change on this diet?
Extruded diets produce different dropping colour and texture than seed diets. This is normal and indicates your bird is digesting the nutritionally complete formula properly. The change reflects higher nutrient absorption.
Can I feed this to canaries?
Yes. Finch & Budgie Crumbles is suitable for all finches, budgies and canaries. The 21% protein supports breeding in all three species and promotes optimal feather development and brain function.
Is this diet suitable for breeding birds?
Yes. This diet is specifically formulated for breeding support with extra protein, vitamins, minerals and calcium for egg formation, chick development and rearing. For omnivorous finches, add Insectapro at 20% during breeding season.
